Writing a job post that attracts the right people
What to include, and what to leave out for safety.
A clear job post saves you from dozens of mismatched replies. Be specific about the work and honest about the schedule.
Include
- The tasks and schedule
- Must-have experience or certifications
- Pay range
- General area (neighborhood, not street address)
- How to apply, and what to include
Leave out
- Your exact address
- Details about when your home is empty
- Children's names, photos or schools
Stay fair
Describe the job, not the person you imagine. Employment discrimination laws can apply to household employers, depending on the law and the number of employees, and fair hiring is good practice either way.
